Winter: the long nights, slippery roads and punishing weather can turn driving from a pleasure into a chore. But to ensure you get home safely this winter – or merely to entertain you with our antics – we’ve created some stories and videos of us tackling wintry conditions in cars. • WINTER TYRES: we took an M3 on summer tyres and a 435i coupe on ADD LINK winter tyres to Pirelli’s Milanese test track, to pit the two cars in a wintry drag race, brake test and timed laps of the circuit • xDRIVE: Ben Barry drove an all-wheel drive 330d Touring to Sölden in the Austrian Alps, home of the inaugural round of this winter’s Alpine Skiing giant slalom.

Car makers do like to make the most of any anniversary they can hang a bit of PR on, and Porsche are no different. 2013 is the 50th anniversary of the, now iconic, Porsche 911 and Porsche has been making PR hay all year with everything from a 50th anniversary 911 to a huge gathering of Porsche 911s at the Silverstone Classic. But now, with just a few months of the 911′s anniversary left to milk the PR, Porsche has put together a video featuring all seven generations of the 911, happily wishing themselves a ‘Happy Birthday’.
Engineers from Ford Motor Co. and Toyota Motor Corp. will work together to develop a hybrid powertrain for use on rear-drive trucks and SUVs, the companies said on Monday.
